Counts here will not match Word, Google Docs or a publisher's count. Words are split on whitespace, so "state-of-the-art" counts as one and a number with a unit attached counts as one. Sentences are split on . ! ? followed by a space, so "Dr. Smith" and "e.g. this" each read as two sentences.
