What this table actually is
A curated reference list of common sensors across gas and air quality, pressure and flow, thermal, motion and position, and vibration and condition monitoring, with logic level, supply voltage and an estimated cost band per part. It exists to shorten a search, not to end one.
Reference use only. This database does not replace official documentation.
Be aware of
- Revisions and end of life: manufacturers update silicon revisions, change specifications and discontinue parts without notice. A part that matches this table today may not match it, or exist, next quarter.
- Implementation safety: logic levels, absolute maximum ratings, supply tolerances, ESD ratings and isolation requirements must be verified against the manufacturer's datasheet before anything is wired. A 5 V part on a 3.3 V bus is a silent failure or a dead part.
- Environment and rating: the sensors listed may not be suitable for life-safety, medical, automotive, marine, aerospace or hazardous-area use unless explicitly rated for it by the vendor.
- Pricing and availability drift: the cost bands are order-of-magnitude guidance from December 2025, not quotes. Distributor stock, minimum quantities, lead times and regional pricing are outside this page entirely.
- Specifications are typical values. Accuracy, range, drift and response time are quoted at reference conditions. Real performance depends on calibration, mounting, temperature, supply noise and the age of the part.
Gas and air quality sensors specifically
- Low-cost metal-oxide and electrochemical sensing elements are indicative. They cross-respond to gases other than the one named, drift with humidity and temperature, need periodic calibration against a known reference, and have a finite service life measured in months to a few years.
- A sensing element on a breakout board is not a gas detector. A detector is a certified instrument with alarm logic, fault detection, a calibration record and a service regime behind it.
- Air quality index and equivalent CO2 outputs from volatile-organic-compound sensors are derived estimates, not measurements of the quantity they are named after.
Combustible or toxic gas detection, oxygen deficiency monitoring and confined space entry require certified instruments meeting the applicable standards, for example IEC 60079-29-1 or ISA-92 for flammable gas, together with a documented calibration and bump-test programme. Never rely on anything from this list to tell you an atmosphere is safe to breathe or safe to enter.
Never use this table for
- Life-safety detection of any kind: gas, smoke, flame, oxygen, or occupancy in an emergency system.
- Medical devices, patient monitoring or any diagnostic use, which require regulatory qualification.
- Automotive functional safety, which requires AEC-Q100 qualified parts and an ISO 26262 process.
- Hazardous or explosive atmospheres, which require certified intrinsically safe or explosion-proof equipment.
- Machinery safety functions, interlocks or emergency stops under ISO 13849 or IEC 62061.
- Regulatory, environmental compliance or emissions monitoring, custody transfer, or any reported measurement of record.
- Final part selection, a bill of materials, or a purchase decision without reading the current datasheet.
Before you commit to a part
Download the current datasheet from the manufacturer for the exact part number, revision and package. Check the absolute maximum ratings, the supply and logic levels, the calibration requirement and the expected life. Confirm lifecycle status and stock with an authorised distributor. For anything safety-related, regulated or certified, involve a qualified engineer and select parts against the governing standard rather than against a summary table.
